Of Museveni, Mugabe and Europe’s iron lady
Critics for the long serving leaders have now turned to Yoweri
Kaguta Museveni of Uganda following the bloodless fall of the last Africa’s independence
father, Dr Robert Mugabe, 93.
Mr Museveni, one of the new breeds of Africa and a regional
peace keeper liberated the pearl of Africa from tyranny and he has reigned
since 1986.
He introduced electoral democracy to Uganda and in his
maiden speech he pretty noted it very well that it wasn’t a ‘mere change of
guards’. Many Ugandans thought that Museveni
was to handle over power to a civilian government. However, none knew of his
hidden agenda.
A number of political thinkers assume that after serving
for two terms, one should leave power so that he let new and fresh ideas take
on for the betterment of the county.
African leaders have for so long been condemned for over staying
in power and in many cases western countries have empowered opposition or some
people within to fight such leaders.
Uganda will live to remember a very big tall man bestowed a
number of praising titles, a patriotic leader who loved his fellow countrymen
and wished every good thing for them. However, History side notes him as one of
the worst leaders Africa has ever had.
Angela Merkel, the German chancellor widely described as the de facto leader of the European Union, the most powerful woman in the world, ‘iron lady’ and the ‘leader
of the free world’ and many other praising names has
ruled since 2005 but she has received little punches in her face despite of clinging into power for the fourth term amid what
has been explained as a ‘far right surge’.
