Sensitize the public about cancer causes, treatment and prevention

Cancer is at the helm of the killer diseases in the world.  Mostly in the developing countries, Uganda not being excluded. Cancer deserves the attention that is put on AIDS writes Moses Muwulya.

Opportunistic and brave Ugandans are now taking it as good avenue to make money from the desperate non informed Ugandans who either have cancer patients, or want to mitigate the risks of contracting the deadly disease.

Because many people are green about this ailement, many people have come up to claim that they cure Cancer and we have seen many patients leaving conventional treating centres and opt for such doctors.

Well, some of them might be genuine, but we cannot rule out the fact that some are questionable.
It’s therefore a task that goes to the Ministry Of Health and Uganda Cancer Institute to senstiise the public about cancer.

We understand the causes to cancer are many. Let the public gets to know these causes.
If there means of mitigating the risks let the public gets to know them too.

A lot of information about cancer is getting viral on the social media platforms. However its authenticity is not known and some can believe the information or not.

It there for a need for the cancer Institute to join with different stakeholders and sensitise the masses.Knowledge is always wealth and it will remain like that especially when we are in an information generation.

We heard about the AWAMU cancer fight campaign; let it disperse to all the parts of the country.
Cervical cancer is among the pronounced types in Uganda and Oncologists link early endulgement in Sex to be among the risk factor to this type.

But in rural areas, early sex is a common practise where we even see children giving birth to fellow children.
This implies that such a generation is at high risk of contracting cancer yet the capacity to offer treatment is still low in the country with only one Treatment Centre.

Instead of mobilising funds for one cancer patient to go for treatment abroad, let’s mobilise funds to invest in Sentisation. Cancer deserves the attention that is put on AIDS.
